Golem

Massachusetts Educational Theatre Guild

2019 High School Drama Festival

Semi-Finalist

An New Play by Samantha Long

A boy, in an attempt to save his family and the citizens of

Prague who are under attack, creates a soulless man out of clay using dark magic: the Golem. This creature serves as a soldier for the people, but the longer he is alive the more human-like he becomes, and the more harm he causes. This is the story of a boy and his monster, posing the question of what makes something human and what it costs to play God.

The Massachusetts High School Festival is the METG’s premier event. The festival includes 112 one-act plays produced by member high schools. The competition is organized on three levels – preliminary, semi-final and state. Student excellence in acting and technical design is recognized at each level, including the selection of an All-Star Company at the finals. Two schools chosen at the State Festival represent Massachusetts in the New England Drama Festival, the regional showcase of secondary school theatre.
